BorderUAS is the H2020 research and innovation project on technologies which enhance border security. The objective of the project is to optimize the surveillance systems in the European Borders by developing an innovative yet cost benefit solution. Overall, BorderUAS aims to combine an unmanned aerial vehicle with an ultra-high resolution multi-sensor surveillance payload, in order to support border surveillance applications and, specifically, detection of activity in difficult terrain. The final solution of the project will lead to a system that will be deployed further by the European border police.

All project’s achievements during the first 12 months of the project were presented on a result-based overview. During this online meeting, short videos, brief demos, explanatory presentations assisted the Project Officer and the Reviewers to get a better idea on the developments of BorderUAS. Fruitful discussions on different matters were the key for the Consortium partners to resolve pending issues and consequently accomplish the future work successfully to reach the desired objectives.

During this period, the definition of the technical specifications of all the components that make up the system was successfully completed.

For its part, SIMAVI, as technical coordinator for WP1 (Work Package 1), completed the design of the BorderUAS System architecture and the Data Management Plan. The architecture was designed considering that the final system is modular, so that each component can be upgraded independently by the relevant technology provider, and facilitating reuse of existing building blocks.

The coordinator and the partners are fully committed to the BorderUAS promised outcomes and even more hard work is foreseen for the upcoming months, keeping up the good results and making the project a great success.
